$80 Million: Grooming New Addicts?
McNEIL-PPC, Inc., in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), voluntarily recalled all lots that have not yet expired of certain over-the-counter (OTC) Children�s and Infants� liquid products. - Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceutical, Inc. will pay $75.37 million to resolve civil allegations under the False Claims Act that it illegally promoted Topomax. - Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, LLC, subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson pled guilty to illegal promotion of Topomax psychiatric drug; sentenced to criminal fine of $6.14 million.

Ortiz said: This case should send a strong reminder that the off-label promotion of pharmaceuticals is illegal, whether it is done directly by company employees, or through programs such as the �Doctor for a Day Program.� We will remain vigilant in our enforcement of these laws regardless of what form the conduct takes.
